Student Groups
The Grassroots Action Center has reached out to over 60 University Transportation Centers across the country that serve as a vital source of leaders who are prepared to meet the nation’s need for safe, efficient and environmentally sound movement of people and goods. University, college and other school groups are run by students and are the core of the AHSRA grassroots network. They campaign and raise awareness about the need for 21st Century transportation in America as well as other issues that come along with the development of a high speed rail network, including: the need for green jobs, reduction of carbon footprint, lowering of traffic congestion, decrease of our dependence on foreign oil, and, in general, improving our quality of life.
Together with student PIRGs (Public Interest Research Groups) we mobilize students for our campaign which involves taking action to bring about (local) change and create more overall support for high speed rail. Initiatives include having exhibitions, holding presentations to educate the public about high speed rail, involving the media to enter the discussion and getting decision-makers to act.
